A very Happy Birthday Switzerland!

A Swiss traditional attire

Tracht is called the Swiss traditional attire, which is still honored by Swiss women across the country. I wore the tracht while still being employed by the last company I worked in. I was preparing a corporate video for our Chinese partners, when the idea of adding a 'swissness' element struck me.

Switzerland celebrates its birth today and what a better way could I find to wish Happy Birthday  other than this Swiss photo of mine? I live already six years in this beautiful country and I am always thrilled to find out more information about its history*.

Switzerland celebrates the first of August as its National Day in 1891 for the first time. Its birthplace is the canton of Uri and specifically the mountain of Ruetli, where three Swiss men swore an oath of eternal confederation in 1291: Werner Stauffacher, Arnold von Melchtal and Walter Fuerst.

*The Swiss newspaper NZZ published a short quiz with historical information about the Swiss National Day, which I found quite enlightening.
